Kathy Griffin chose to release a video holding what appears to be a bloody severed head of the current President of the United States, Donald Trump. Griffin immediately received intense backlash for posting the video and has since apologized.
“I sincerely apologize … I went way too far. The image is too disturbing. I understand how it offends people.” Griffin said in her apology video. Many online called for Griffin’s arrest over the outrage, comparing the imagery of her video with that of ISIS videos. However, others made the comparison to Ted Nugent, who called for former President Obama to be hanged, and was then invited to the White House by Trump.
CNN, the network where Griffin host’s a New Years Eve program, has issued a statement saying “We are pleased to see she has apologized… We are evaluating New Year’s Eve and have made no decisions at this point.” Although they have now confirmed she will no longer host the New Year’s Eve program.
It’s not clear how much reprimanding Griffin could receive for this stunt, but we’ll update this story as more information becomes available.
