In continuing to honor The Notorious B.I.G. in what has been the 20th year anniversary of his untimely death, ASCAP joins to the list of honors for him and plans to award B.I.G with their biggest award on June 22, at the 30th Annual Rhythm and Soul Music Awards. The award is the Founders Award, meant for his unmeasurable contribution to music and being one of the pioneers of the game. This award has been previously gifted to Dr.Dre, Diddy, and Jermain Dupri.
The president of ASCAP Paul Williams spoke on this decision saying:
“Biggie was a legend in his own time and his legacy lives on through his music. Like all songwriters, he was a master storyteller, but it was the realism in his rhymes that captured so many.”
His mother Viola Davis and his widow Faith Evans will be in attendance to collect this reward on his behalf. Congratulations to Biggie, we wish he was here to accept this award in person!
