Donald Glover a.k.a. Childish Gambino performed Saturday (June 3) at NYC’s Governors Ball with a set was full of surprises. The Stone Mountain, GA native has had an enormous amount of success this year. His show Atlanta is a highly revered series on FX, his album ‘Awaken My Love’ also received much critical acclaim and made it into ‘Get Out’ which is a film that has grossed nearly $250M.
One of the biggest moments of the evening was Gambino’s performance of “Baby Boy” in which he dedicated to the entire crowd and his “young son, Legend.”
Just before leaving the stage for the evening, Gambino left the crowd in shock when announcing that he would be back to perform for them again, but doing so with his last album.
It is very hard to determine how much weight a statement like this can hold with musicians these days, but Gambino does have a lot going for him outside of music. On the big screen alone, Gambino has landed roles in “The Lion King,” “Spider-Man,” and “Star Wars.” We will also be able to see him via our set top boxes next year as “Atlanta” has been renewed for a second season.
