In the midst of the Philando Castile case, the only video that was allowed to the public was the live stream Diamond Reynolds (Castile’s girlfriend) filmed during the incident. Now since today, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has released the dash cam video leading up to and during the shooting. The footage is graphic and was only shown to the court in the trial with Jeranimo Yanez being found not guilty of second degree of the manslaughter of Castile’s death.
The video also captured the conversation between him and Castile, going through the runaround, before Castile gives Yanez something and saying “Sir, I have to tell you, I do have a firearm on me.” Castile has not even had the time to finish his sentence before Yanez pulls his gun out of the holster, frantically shouting “Don’t pull it out!”. According to Yanez as he testified in court that Castile didn’t pay attention nor follow commands- he most definitely saw a gun drawn, yet Castile’s last words were “I wasn’t reaching for it.”
“My son loved this city, and this city killed my son,” Valerie Castiles [mother] said after Yanez was announced not guilty. “And a murderer gets away? Are you kidding me right now?”
Yanez can no longer work for the St. Anthony department according to the force of saying public interest “will be best served.”
