The announcement for the premiere of Spike Lee’s new Netflix series “She’s Gotta Have It,” based on his 1986 debut film finally has a season one release date. During the BET Awards last night (June 25) it was announced that season one will debut this Thanksgiving.
The first Spike Lee joint, which grossed $7 million, on the silver screen seems to be an excellent transition for Lee as he begins his first television series. However, he won’t take all the credit as he claims his wife was the inspiration.
“It was my wife, Tonya Lewis Lee, producer in her own right, who had the vision to take my film from the big screen and turn it into an episodic series… It had not occurred to me at all. Tonya saw it plain as day. I didn’t.”
Lee’s film celebrated its 31st anniversary last year and had just been part of collaboration with the Jordan brand for a signature sneaker honoring the film. Stay tuned as we find out more about the upcoming series.
