Billy MacFarland, Ja Rules “friend” and partner in the Fyre Festival, has been arrested for wire fraud. “McFarland allegedly presented fake documents to induce investors to put over a million dollars into his company and the fiasco called the Fyre Festival.” Said Joon H. Kim, United States Attorney for southern district New York.
MacFarland faces up to 20 years but can possibly receive a lighter sentence. The charges include Billy’s defrauding of investors and misrepresentation of his company. He reportedly misrepresented Fyre Media’s revenue and his personal wealth. MacFarland also claimed to own $2.5 million worth of stocks when in reality he only held $1500 worth.
Ja Rule remains free and is not involved with MacFarland’s charges, but the two still face several lawsuits following the mishaps of Fyre Music Festival. The horrendous execution of Fyre Festival had led MacFarland to these charges, and now it is a matter of time until we see how he will be punished.
