Five years after the controversial Trayvon Martin case, a Florida Judge finally speaks out and admit that the “Stand Your Ground” law is unconstitutional.

Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Milton Hirsch ruled that lawmakers overstepped their authority in modifying the law this year to force. This law has been one of the most controversial laws in recent years. The law, states that:

“a person is justified in the use of deadly force and has no duty to retreat if the person reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself, or another or to prevent the imminent commission of a forcible felony”

Roberto Koltun

Unfortunately, this does not erase the injustices such as Trayvon Martin that have been affected by this law but hopefully a Judge publicly criticizing the law will protect potential victims of this law.
