Nelsan Ellis, best known for playing Lafayette on HBO’s “True Blood,” has unfortunately passed away at the young age of 39 due to heart complications.
Ellis played in numerous films including playing as Martin Luther King Jr in “The Butler,” singer Bobby Byrd in “Get On Up” and appeared in shows as recent as CBS’s “Elementary.” I’m sure Ellis will be missed as many of his castmates have since came out and said what an actor he was and the pleasure it was to work with him. HBO has since released a statement saying:
We were extremely saddened to hear of the passing of Nelsan Ellis. Nelsan was a long-time member of the HBO family whose groundbreaking portrayal of Lafayette will be remembered fondly within the overall legacy of True Blood. Nelsan will be dearly missed by his fans and all of us at HBO.
Ellis’ final role is in the film adaptation of “True to The Game” along with Vivica A. Fox, Columbus Short, and Draya Michelle.
