A man who was shot by an off-duty police officer in 1989 has recently died and his autopsy has revealed his kidney failure was the result of the shooting.
Brian Evans, 46, had an altercation with an off-duty cop and was shot in his back. His ex-wife Theresa Johnson spoke about the incident saying “He got into an altercation, he didn’t know that [it was an off-duty cop],” she told the News. “He said he had an argument with somebody, he threatened the guy, and then he went to turn [when he got shot]. The off-duty cop was telling him to stop.”
The city’s medical examiner ruled the death a homicide, surprising her. Evans wasn’t a sick man his wife says. So the kidney problems came as a surprise to everyone. We wonder if 28 years after the fact some justice will be provided.
