The Mayor of New York City, Bill de Blasio, has announced a “millionaires tax” on Monday for wealthy New York City residents to pay for subway and bus upgrades. Those who use public transportation in the area should greatly appreciate the efforts especially after this past summer being described as “the summer of hell” for commuters.
The proposal is the latest move in the battle between Mayor de Blasio and Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo over the power struggle over who has control over the biggest city in the world. The plan would also allow half-price MetroCards for low-income riders.
Both Mayor de Blasio and Governor Cuomo have been under pressure to fix the crisis but haven’t been able to see eye to eye.
