President Trump is not one to keep his opinions off of Twitter unless it involves a terrorist attack where Muslims are the victims. After a bomb was thrown into the Dar Al Farooq Islamic Center in Minnesota on Saturday (August 5), the response from the state has swiftly deemed the crime an act of terrorism, but there has been only silence from the White House.
No one was injured in the attack, but the building received heavy damage from what the FBI deemed as an “improvised explosive device” that was used. Trump’s deputy assistant, Sebastian Gorka, said, “Sometimes an attack is unequivocally clear for what it is. When somebody shouts, ‘Allahu Akbar’, as they’re stabbing a police officer, it’s pretty clear it’s not a case of the mafia robbing a bank, wouldn’t you say so? … Hold your horses, count to 10 and the president will do what he deems fit,”
Despite Gorka’s condescending remarks about attacks on Muslims, it truly seems like the president will do all he can to avoid speaking up for Muslims even if they are Americans. This specific region of Minnesota has had 14 anti-Muslim incidents in 2016 alone, and the rhetoric of the president and the lack of condemnation send a terrible message to the country.
