“Ongoing challenges remain years later for Flint residents, and it’s important that we don’t forget our brothers and sisters affected by this disaster,” Mars said in a statement to the LA Times. “As people, especially as Americans, we need to stand together to make sure something like this never happens in any community ever again.”
Shortly after the announcement, the CEO of the Community Foundation of Greater Flint tweeted his sincerest thanks to Mars.

The city of Flint has been without clean water since 2014, several lawsuits from citizens and political figures alike, there’s still a long way to go before the city has clean water again. Although lead levels are at an all time low since the crisis has started, residents and their pets are encouraged to drink bottled water.
