While there’s been a lot of news surrounding the takedown of statues memorializing Confederate leaders, one person has an idea of who can replace a Confederate statue in Virginia.
Nathan Coflin started a petition through Change.org and states that Missy Elliott should replace one statue:
We believe it is time to finally replace the Confederate Monument in Olde Towne Portsmouth Virginia near the intersection of Court and High streets with a new statue of a true Portsmouth native hero. Who better to encapsulate the culture and spirit of the city enshrined in a new monument than Grammy Award winning rapper, dancer, and record producer Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott?
He goes onto discuss more in detail on why the Virginia native deserves it. As of this writing, this petition is a mere 857 votes away from its 25,000 vote goal. Can Nathan make Missy Elliot immortalized in a statue?
