While some may picture France’s fashion scene as one dominated by high-end design houses and luxury garments, the rise of youth-focused brands and contemporary boutiques over the past few years has taken French streetwear from inspirational to accessible. Marine Desbonnet and Sekou Fofana of High Livin Spirit spoke with us about their brand and the foundation it was created on.

Anything that goes beyond the common pathway has often been perceived as abnormal. If being abnormal is taking your artistry beyond the rules that are striving to keep us bounded, we dig it, and the new High Livin’ Spirit’s collection is an ode to this way of thinking.

Where is High Livin Spirit based?

We are from France, we are actually at Paris

Who are the founders of High Livin Spirit and how did you meet?

We are two, Marine Desbonnet and Sekou Fofana. We met at school since then we decide to make a brand with a new view.

How has High Livin’s style evolved since it started all the way to it’s current state?

We started from selling stuff at high school then we made a shop and this year we had an opportunity to open a showroom in Paris for 2 days. We are really proud of our evolution, now we have work to do more in 2K18.

What do you feel like has been the craziest moment in your career both good and bad?

There many from the both side but the most exciting was this year at our Paris showroom, we meet so much people who like HIGH LIVIN SPIRIT and understand the message. The bad was to do more days during our showroom but we will hustle to do more next year.

There’s a kid in his mom’s basement silk screen printing a shirt right now with a dream to be in your position one day. What advice
would you give him, given the current climate in fashion as well as the direction it’s going in?

We were that kid, that’s the reason why we made HIGH LIVIN SPIRIT for the youth who have a dream, a goal and want, work, strive to make it come true. Anything that goes beyond the common pathway has often been perceived as abnormal. If being abnormal is taking your artistry beyond the rules that are striving to keep us bounded, we dig it, and the new High Livin’ Spirit’s collection is an ode to this way of thinking. Our clothing collection is a tribute to those people, to those who dream, to those who dare. High Livin’ Spirit is a clothing brand which want to be the standard of this philosophy so close to our generation. It’s not only a philosophy but a way of life. We encourage every single one of you to discover your true self and embrace it, we encourage you to embrace your particularity. Abnormal is not a swearword, it is in you. Be true and push the boundaries and the norm away. Abnormal is the new normal.

What do you feel is the number one key in new brands generating sales?

Create Clothes which best linked to your brand identity

What demographic do you feel like your brand appeals to?

It’s hard to say because we are lucky to have orders mostly from France then from London, Holland, Japan.

Everything from the clothing design to the model selection of High Livin Spirit, can you describe to us your creative direction towards your brand?

It’s very organic, we take notes of our inspirations ( art, music, instagram, travel ) then we make differents drawing and after we pick the most we like. Our models are mostly people and artists we meet at our event or on instagram, they are not professional model. We choose them because of their style, mood and spirit.

What can we expect from High Livin Spirit in 2018?

A new collection and another showroom in different cities to make our dream comes true
